Words of Encouragement

"If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest."

A Bike Ride Adventure

Last week My friend Noel and I got together and went for a bike ride. I went to her house and we rode to the store and got sandwiches and ice cream! We stopped at the park on the way home and enjoyed our lunch and ice cream. After finishing our lunch we started riding home and about halfway home Noel asked if she could put her sunglasses in my backpack. I said "sure" and reached for my backpack. My heart racing, I stated "oh no" I left it at the park. Noel burst out laughing and I took off ridding as fast as I could, and thankfully upon reaching the park my backpack was still sitting where I had forgot it. After that our ride was uneventful and we made it back safely. All in all it was a fun day!

Homemade Marshmallows

It's the season for a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows! Homemade marshmallows are one of my favorite things to make because they turn out so good and taste so much better then the store bought ones.
Since it was cold today and I was going to have hot coco I decided to make marshmallows to go with it.
I tried them with sugar instead or corn syrup and they tasted much better. Now that you all are wondering how to make them, here is the recipe...
  • 2 Tbls. gelatin
  • 8 Tbls. cold water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions:
  1. Dust an 9 inch square pan with powder sugar and set aside. (I suggest greasing it with butter first)
  2. In a small bowl, soak gelatin in 8 Tbls. cold water. Set aside.
  3. Combine granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of cold water in a large heavy sausepan.
  4. Cook and stir ov3er medium heat until dissolved.
  5. Add gelatin and bring to a boil.
  6. Remove from heat. Pour into a large mixing bowl and stand until partly cool.
  7. Add salt and vanilla extract.
  8. Beat with an electric mixer until soft and double in volume. About 10-15 minutes. (use whisk attachment)
  9. Pour into prepared pan.
  10. Set to cool until it will not stick to your finger.
  11. Cut into squares and roll in powdered sugar.
  12. Enjoy!

The Mad Sewer

The past few weeks have been full of activities and I didn't have much time for blogging. Thankfully things are finally starting to slow down, and I can (hopefully) post more often.

Lately I've been on a sewing craze. Despite having other things to do, I still made time to sew. I got inspired to sew more by a blog I found through Pintrest. My dad encouraged me to make a dress, so my mom and I both made one together. I have been wanting to post pictures of them but none of them turned out good. Hopefully soon I will get some nice ones to share with you all.

After finishing the dresses, I got the idea that I should make a cowgirl shirt...so I did. I started Monday, and had a western party with my home school group Friday. Wanting to finish in time for the party, I sewed like crazy for four days and finished it an hour before I had to go!

I'm still in the sewing mood and have some more projects to start, but that will be for a later post.

My mom calls me the mad sewer.

Black Light Bowling

Spare!!! Strike!!! The exciting moments of bowling!
My friend Sara invited me to go cosmic bowling with her and her family to celebrate her birthday. Excitedly, we set off with our white shirts and arrived at the bowling alley a little after ten pm, around the time when cosmic bowling started. After we got organized with our shoes and a lane, the lights went out and the black lights flicked on! With glowing shirts and smiling faces, we bowled for one fun and fabulous hour.
We almost had as much fun taking pictures as we did bowling!

Bubble Tea: An entertaing drink

Tapioca pearls, more often called boba, is commonly found in Thai tea beverages. Made with cassava root and a starchy substance, tapioca pearls, when boiled become soft and chewy.  The most popular thing to do with boba is to add it to tea of any sort. It looks like bubbles at the bottom of the glass, hence the name bubble tea.
Boba can be hard to find and is mostly sold at Thai markets.  My grandma bought some for us at a Thai market by her house.

It is super easy to make! All you need is:
  • Tapioca pearls (boba)
  • Tea or any kind of drink
  • Boiling water
  • Over sized straws
Place one cup of tapioca pearls in seven cups of boiling water and stir so they don't stick to the bottom. Let the tapioca boil for about thirty minutes. Turn heat off and allow tapioca to sit for twenty minutes. Tip: Soaking them in sugar water at the end gives them a nice sweet taste.
I just followed the directions on the package.
Once the pearls are done put a scoop in any beverage desired.
Most people are hesitant to try boba, but there is no need to be.  It doesn't have much of a taste and is just a chewy texture.  It will cause you to smile, and makes any drink more entertaining!

P.S. In the picture I made an espresso, added milk and put boba.

Backyard Life

Introducing Houdini...
   my little escape artist.
Houdini, just like all our other chickens, lives in the fenced in area in our backyard.  Recently she has decided to fly over the fence, into the backyard, and she does it quite regularly everyday.  She hasn't figured out how to get back over the fence.  When it is bedtime and all the others hens are roosting in the hen house she can't get in, so she comes up to the patio and roosts on our patio table.
Most days I put her back over the fence during the day so she can go the bed with the others...but not before having some fun with her!
I know, you all probably think I'm crazy.
She actually stayed on for a long time!

Well, now you all have a glimpse of our backyard life.

I finally started a blog! This is a new and exciting experience for me and I hope it goes well.
